On Thursday, February 8, 2018, Anne Whitehurst Keel, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, went to be with Jesus at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her husband, Sam, her children, Gregory, LuAnne, and Daniel, her brother, Bill, 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of Samuel Clayton Whitehurst, Jr. and Florie Morgan Whitehurst. She was predeceased by her oldest son Howard Gray Keel. She was born at Whitehurst Station, but spent the majority of her life in Bethel. The last few years were in Tarboro. She attended East Carolina University and graduated with a Master’s in Education. She taught music at both Bethel Elementary and Middle Schools and later the 5th grade.
She was active at Bethel United Methodist Church for many years as a choir member and as a Sunday school teacher.
Perhaps her greatest accomplishment was passing along her faith in Jesus Christ to her kids and to the community at large. To know Anne Keel was to know something about God and to be prayed for.
Visitation will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home Friday, February 9, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm.
There will be a graveside service at the Bethel Cemetery in Bethel, NC on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church. Put Anne Keel in the memo. The collected funds will be donated to Kehilat HaCarmel (Carmel Congregation), a Messianic Jewish congregation in Haifa, Israel, led by Daniel and LuAnne Keel Sayag (Anne’s daughter).
Donations may be sent to:

"Heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends during this difficult time. It's times like these when the loving promises of our Heavenly Father can bring us comfort and can soften some of the pain we feel in our hearts. May God grant you guidance, strength and peace during your time of sorrow. 1Thessalonians 4:13,14

Gregory, I am sorry I left off your name. I still remember your kind, courteous manner with a ready smile like your mom's and dad's. May the Lord specially bless you at this time.

Sam, LuAnne, Daniel and family, I am thinking of and praying for you now on the pass ing of Anne. Although I had lost contact with you since moving from Pitt County, I fondly remember your family's support when I was principal at North Pitt. I remember Anne's warm personality and ready smile. May God's comfort and consolation be yours at this time. An old acquaintance, Josh Potter

Luanne, Gregory, Daniel and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Your mom will be missed greatly. She was one of the kindest, most loving and gentle persons I've ever been privileged to know....and a prayer warrior........Pam
