Eugenia Hughes Leggett passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, December 5, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends.
Eugenia was born in Beaufort County to Daniel Riley and Mary Elizabeth Hughes.
At the age of 16 she began working at Carolina Telephone Company as an operator. She retired from Sprint Telephone Company with more than 50 years of service. She enjoyed singing in the choir and attending Trinity Baptist Church where she was a member for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband for over 50 years, Jerome “Bud” Leggett.
Eugenia is survived by her twin sister, Rebecca Hughes Powell of Newport News, VA.,
and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank these ladies for caring and keeping Eugenia comfortable during her latter days at home, Debbie Morris, Martha Ann Dew, Sharon Johnson, Pat Joyner, Sophia Sisk and Sandy Roberson.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11:00am, Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Jordon Willard officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 730 W. Wilson St., Tarboro, NC 27886.
The family will receive friends and other relatives Wednesday from 7:00 – 8:00pm at Carlisle Funeral Home.

Our deepest condolences to the family. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, words alone cannot ease the pain of our loss. Our loving God Jehovah understands how we feel and he comforts us by means of his word the Bible. Psalm 147:3 reads He (God) heals the brokenhearted; He binds up their wounds. We can also find comfort from Jesus words at John 5:28-29 “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”. May these scriptures bring comfort and calmness of heart to you during the difficult days ahead.

It is indeed sad that you are mourning the loss of your dear Regina. Please accept my condolences and know that our loving God is keenly aware of the pain you’re experiencing. The Bible shows that in due time, he will eliminate all suffering on earth, including death. Therefore, you can appreciate how the Bible further stresses the fact as you view the video below:
