Una Belle Phelps Hoggard age 94 passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, N.C. She was born Una Belle Phelps to Fitzhugh Lee Phelps and Moresa Pricilla Newbern Phelps in Merry Hill, N.C.
She is survived by her (4) sons; George Woody Hoggard Jr., Fitzhugh Lee Hoggard, John David Hoggard, Joseph Douglas Hoggard; (10) grandchildren Georgia Yvonne Hoggard Peaden, James Kelly Hoggard, George Woody Hoggard III, Michael Lee Hoggard, Jaclyn Elizabeth Hoggard Darrah, John David Hoggard Jr., Paul Adam Hoggard, Jennie Michelle Hoggard Webb, Vernon Douglas Everette III, and Christina Gayle Everette Abbott and (18) Great Grandchildren.
Una Belle began her career from Atlantic Christian College as an elementary school teacher in Merry Hill, N.C. and taught elementary school until 1963. Through the years of teaching she had gained a great capacity for learning and knowledge and memorization which she cultivated throughout her entire life by actively keeping her mind engaged by memorizing many important speeches, poems, people and events from our country’s history such as memorizing all of our presidents names and always keeping it up to date. In 1963 she moved her family from Windsor, N.C. to Tarboro, N.C. as her husband George Woody Hoggard had become a pastor. From that time until her passing she served as a pastor’s wife. She fulfilled that role with all the love and caring for her church family as she had for her own family. She devoted her life to giving and caring for others. Never one to pass by someone in need of help.
For her times of relaxations (which weren’t very many in the early years of marriage and teaching and raising children) she loved to go fishing with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, Una Belle enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching TV shows where she would pit her knowledge against the contestants to see who could get the correct answer first. Most times she did. She will be much missed by her family and friends but we have wonderful memories to last a lifetime and we also find comfort in knowing that Una Belle (teacher, mother, grandmother) is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Una’s life will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Falkland Church of God, Falkland NC at 2:00 Pm with the Rev. Gordan Braxton, Jr officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. The interment will follow in the Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home, Inc., of Tarboro. Online condolences may be directed to the family by visiting www.carlislefuneralhome.com.

To The Family,
As a volunteer minister I read the obituaries on a regular basis. I did not personally know Ms. Una Bell Hoggard nor her family but in reading her obituary, this woman was very well known for her intelligence, talents, and kindness. Death of a loved one is extremely painful. On a positive note, we all can look forward to the day when our dead loved ones will be resurrected back to life in God's new world where death, sickness, pain and sorrow will be swallowed up forever.(Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:3,4)
I am so sorry for your loss.
Mr. Terry, a volunteer Minister
