Jack Spencer Hagans



Jack Spencer Hagans passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday October 5, 2017 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held at Saint James United Methodist Church on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 2:00pm with Rev. Nathan Wittman officiating. The family will be receiving family and friends at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

Jack was born in Edgecombe County on September 21, 1925 to the late James Thomas and Murhl Tooley Hagans. Jack retired from Ansell Edmont in the early 1990's. He was also a faithful and active member of Saint James United Methodist Church. He also held the distinction of being the longest standing member. He was known to his family as "Pappy Jack". His favorite pastime was to work crossword puzzles and to get together with his beloved friends to play cards. He also enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with his special friend, Beverly, as well as going to the Roberson Center everyday for lunch.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hagans was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Betty Ann Hagans; brother, J.T. "Jim" Hagans; sisters, Elizabeth "Lib" Fisher, Mildred "Pat" Page and Marjorie Wilson.

He is survived by his family which includes his stepson, William "Bill" Burruss and wife Carol of Key West Florida; step-daughter, Julie Alford and husband Tim of Nashville N.C.; four step-grandchildren which include Kara Bramhall and husband Cory of Greensboro, William "Will" Burruss of Miami, Florida, Laurel Martinez and husband Joel of Jacksonville Florida, and Lance Alford of Nashville NC. Also four step-great grandchildren of Jacksonville, Florida which include Zoey, A.J., Gabby and Ellie Spencer Martinez. He is survived by his sisters, Virginia Weeks of Tarboro and Anne Kelly and husband Pat of Raleigh. His extended family includes his nieces, Susan Johnson and husband Dave of Rocky Mount, Linda Peterson of Raleigh and Kimberly Braxton and husband G.W. of Scotland Neck N.C.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested in Jack's memory to Saint James United Methodist Church: 211 E. Saint James Street,Tarboro NC 27886.
