Ambrose Lloyd Owens, Jr., 74, died unexpectedly in a traffic accident on Sunday, July 9, 2017. He was born December 1, 1942, to the late Francina Worrell and Ambrose Lloyd Owens, Sr., and was raised in Plymouth, N.C. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1967 with a degree in organ/church music and began a career teaching music at Tarboro High School. He was well known as a talented musician, retiring as organist and choirmaster of Calvary Episcopal Church in 2012, and a successful businessman as long-time owner of Braswell Distributing. He served on numerous boards and committees in his civic life and was especially proud of his membership in the Tarboro Rotary Club and being a Paul Harris Fellow. He was full of life and was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and PaPa.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Candis Bailey Owens of the home. Also surviving are his daughter Lisa Owens Daughtry and husband Alan of Apex; his son Ambrose Lloyd “Tripp” Owens III and wife Johanna of Tarboro; his grandchildren, Bailey Foote and Matthew Daughtry of Greenville, and Simon and Sadie Owens of Tarboro; his brother James Edward “Ebby” Owens and wife Sue of Roper; and several nieces and nephews including Sarah Owens Smolenski and husband Joe of Raleigh, and Reid Owens and partner Chip Barker also of Raleigh.

A funeral service with committal will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro on Wednesday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening, 6:00 to 8:30 at the home, 104 W. Park Avenue. The family will also receive friends after the service and other times at home. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, 411 East Church Street, Tarboro, NC 27886; to the Edgecombe County Charitable Foundation c/o NC Community Foundation, 3737 Glenwood Avenue #460, Raleigh, NC 27612; or to the charity of one’s choice.
