Pinetops- Johnnie Murphy Naylor, 79, beloved husband, father, Papa, brother and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday April 1, 2017.

He leaves his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Harrell Naylor; sons, Jeffrey (Wendy) and Edward (Sheryl); five grandchildren, Jonathan (Ashley), Jocelyn, Hannah, Mary Roslyn and Whitley; brother, David (Betty); sisters Helen Potts (Leslie) and Betty Sasser (Glenn).

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Katie (Johnson) Naylor Barwick and P.R. Naylor; brother Tillman, sisters Ruby and Louise and a grandson, Jordan Naylor.

Johnnie was born in St. Pauls, NC in 1937, grew up at the Kennedy Home in Kinston, NC and graduated from Lagrange High School. He served in the US Army before engaging in a long business career, including founding a successful company. He was active in the community, serving in many ways including: being deacon and Sunday school teacher at Pinetops Baptist Church, and in other capacities. Johnnie served on the Edgecombe County Board of Education and on the Board of Directors of the Stoney Creek Rescue Squad.

Visitation will be Monday, from 7:00 – 9:00pm at Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro, NC and funeral services will be Tuesday, 11:00am, Pinetops Baptist Church, Pinetops, NC with Rev. John Melancon officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Pinetops with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Pinetops Baptist Church building fund.
