Bettie Ann Leggett Godfrey, 88, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Pruitt Health Crystal Coast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beaufort.
A graveside service to honor Bettie’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13th at Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro, NC, officiated by The Rev. Dr. John B. Pollack.
Bettie dedicated over three decades as the Assistant Register of Deeds in Edgecombe County and was a familiar face in the community. She found solace and enrichment in her faith at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Morehead City. Her spirit shone brightly through her volunteer work at Carteret Health Care and ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital. Bettie was cherished by many for her involvement in the Hands of Prayer at First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City.
Her professional and volunteer commitments, Bettie's warmth, and creativity shone through her love for cooking, knitting, and needlepoint. Her talents and passions enriched the lives of those around her, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Ann Gillikin, and her husband, Gary Gillikin of Newport; son, Paul Godfrey, and his wife, Holly Godfrey of Grover; and granddaughter, Mary Grace Gillikin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Taylor; brothers, Malcolm Leggett and Jerome Leggett; and granddaughter, Caroline Godfrey.
